History Dinner Theater: Doin? Dunbar as ?Lias? Mother

Join us for an interactive evening with Oni Lasana?s heartfelt portrayal of a woman during the Civil War. ? Lias? (Elias) is a character from Paul Dunbar?s poem ?In The Morning.? This lively one woman educational and entertaining show features Dunbar?s dialect poems connected to Lasana?s expressive monologue. Doin? Dunbar as ?Lias? Mother is presented in an interactive storytelling style with poetic stories about ?Lias? mother?s family and friends. Performed in authentic costume and historically based, this touching drama mixed with humor offers an unforgettable experience in history, literature, music, and theater. Paul Laurence Dunbar was a gifted and prolific pet, writer, lyricist, and folklorist who was a forerunner to the Harlem Renaissance era in American Literature. As the son of ex-slaves, he was influenced by both his parent?s storytelling. His work influenced other writers such as Langston Hughes and Zora Neal Hurston to compose work in dialect and regional vernaculars. Your ticket price includes a menu choice of one of the following selections. Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breast with Tomato Basil Sauce Enjoy a deliciously seared chicken breast baked with a golden crust of Parmesan cheese and topped with a fresh cherry tomato and basil sauce. Raspberry Chipotle Roast Pork Our second option is a delectable roasted pork loin coated with a glaze of raspberry preserves and chipotle seasoning. All entrees are served with fresh dinner rolls and butter, a tossed Greek salad with a lemon and olive oil dressing, roasted carrots, whipped potatoes, and a hearty and homemade apple pie for dessert.
