SVC President Fr. Paul Taylor listed among 2024 Trailblazers in Higher Education

Father Paul is among 94 administrators, educators, lobbyists and elected officials from across the state whose creativity, leadership and collaborative spirit stands out amid the challenging and constantly shifting landscape of higher education.

“Trailblazing indicates positive growth in new directions,” Father Paul said. “It is an honor to be included with others who continue to work for growth in our region and our Commonwealth. Two characteristics that Saint Vincent College has prioritized from our founding are stability and adaptability. People, especially young people, yearn for stability in their lives while trying to grow to be the best they can be.”

In July, Father Paul will mark the fifth anniversary of his appointment as the 18th president of Saint Vincent College. City & State PA noted that Father Paul’s “long tenure in college leadership is distinguished by prodigious fundraising.” He steered the “Forward, Always Forward” campaign, which raised $118 million, exceeding its target by 20 percent. Father Paul also assisted in successful fundraising campaigns for the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion, the Fred M. Rogers Center, Headmasters Hall and a variety of scholarship endowment funds.

“Each era in the evolution of an institution brings new challenges,” Father Paul said. “Saint Vincent continues to grow without compromising our strong, stable community. Good, positive growth doesn’t mean erratic behavior. It might be best described by building a strong, new building on an already strong foundation.”

Father Paul serves on the boards of directors of the Council of Independent Colleges, the Higher Education Research and Development Institute and the Latrobe Area Hospital Charitable Foundation. He is on the board of trustees of Fort Ligonier and is an advisor to the board of Straub Brewery, Inc. Father Paul also is the longtime chaplain for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
